Objectives

Planning, scheduling, and controlling in productions systems are essential for operational excellence. In Industry 4.0 era, all these concepts have gained more importance than they were in the past.

This course aimed at revisiting production planning, scheduling and controlling. We start with comparing production philosophies including pull, push and hybrid systems.

For better planning and scheduling, we need to understand demand forecasting, nature of product orders, inventory management, product structure, processes and resources we use in production.

The course will also cover statistical control systems.

Planarter software will assist us for practicing with creating plans and schedules.

Murat M. Günal, founder and managing director of Simarter, a management consultancy company specialised in simulation, optimisation, and analytics.

Prof. Gunal is both a practitioner and a scientist. He is a managing partner of Simarter, a consultancy focused on simulation, optimization, and analytics. On top of that, he publishes at Lancaster University. He will show you how to create a digital twin of your factory to make only data-driven decisions.

He is an industrial engineer and Operational Researcher (O.R.) since 1996. He received his MSc and PhD degrees in O.R. from Lancaster University, U.K. in 2000 and 2008 respectively. He is active in academic research and teaching. He published many articles and books worldwide. His recent edited book “Simulation for Industry 4.0” signifies the role of simulation in manufacturing. He is the area editors for Journal of Simulation (Palgrave) and Health Systems (T&F), and acted in several simulation conferences in organizing committees. His interest in practice has led him establish a company to engage with challenging problems in real world. His company creates COTS software solutions for today’s tough problems.
